The California State Bar website has a lot of useful information about the practice of law in California.  Also, you may look up any attorney, practicing or not, who has ever been licensed in California.

Nolo Press publishes books in nearly every area of law.  These books are designed for a layperson, and frequently have forms, checklists, and everything you need to resolve your legal issue yourself.

California State has its own self help center, which is extremely thorough, and provides numerous other links to forms and legal information.  This is a great site to explore to understand your own case, and the necessary steps that you, or your attorney, must take.
